Biography

Anna Breit is a photographer from Vienna, working at the intersection of documentary, fashion photography, and fine art. Her work explores interpersonal relationships, memory, and intimacy, often focusing on people from her immediate environment.
In her solo exhibition These Days I Think a Lot about the Days That I Forgot (Francisco Carolinum Linz, 2025), she addresses questions of memory and closeness through a portrait of three generations: her grandmother, her mother, and herself.
Her series Teens (in Their Rooms) (2019–2021) portrays young people within their rooms. The accompanying book, published by Fotohof in 2021, was shown at institutions including WestLicht Vienna, Museum der Arbeit Hamburg, and LENTOS Kunstmuseum Linz. In 2024, Breit published her second book, Look Book – 01 (Fotohof), bringing together more than 100 portrait excerpts from commissioned works made between 2018 and 2024. Based on analogue negatives, the works transform cropped and enlarged fragments of faces into heavily grained close-ups, questioning the boundaries between commissioned photography and autonomous artistic practice.
Look Book – 01 was shortlisted for the Arles Author Book Award in 2025. Breit’s photographs have been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at Visage d’Europe in Paris, Rupertinum Salzburg and Unseen Amsterdam, and published in magazines such as Vogue, de Volkskrant, and Greif.
She lives and lives and works in Vienna.
