The palimpsestic nature of photography carries the essence of a manuscript that has been written and rewritten multiple times, layer upon layer. This book is primarily dedicated to exploring photography as a medium, focusing on its truthful, beautiful, and sublime qualities. Moreover, the question of whether photography – or the photographic image – is art has not been a matter of debate for anyone with discernment for many decades. Quite the contrary. From the recognition of the Gothic zenith light’s significance and the dialogical nature of modern imagery – moments that highlight an emphasis on the individuality of human destiny and its unique particularity – through to the (avant-garde) passion for personal style, we have witnessed the growing authority of the photographic image due to its truthful, beautiful, and noble characteristics.
