How can you turn an initial idea into a strong documentary photographic project? How should you approach storytelling, editing and artistic strategy? And what comes next once the project is ready — how do you find the right partners, sources of funding, grants and opportunities to bring it to life and present it to an audience?
This workshop will focus on the concrete process of developing and structuring a documentary photographic project, from the initial idea to its presentation and the search for the right opportunities for its realisation. Alongside questions of storytelling, editing and artistic strategy, it will address the practical aspects of developing a project: how to turn an idea into a strong project proposal, identify potential partners and sources of funding, find relevant grants and open calls, and build an effective application dossier.
The workshop is aimed at photographers from Slovakia and neighbouring countries who want to think beyond the immediate scale of their projects, recognise their potential and ambition, and explore ways to further develop, fund and bring their work to a wider audience.
