Memory as an Artistic Strategy

How can we give visual form to what was meant to be forgotten? This workshop offers methods for systematically exploring family and collective memory, transgenerational trauma, and the traces of repression through photography, text, and archival materials.

The workshop is primarily intended for students of visual media and the humanities, emerging artists, photography enthusiasts, as well as anyone interested in understanding their own family history or the turbulent fates of their relatives. No prior exhibition experience is required. We are looking for participants who are eager to engage in systematic work and in-depth research, and who have the courage to look beneath the surface of family or local histories.
