YOU AN ORCHESTRA, YOU A BOMB
© Cig Harvey The first victim of our modern world? The ability to feel wonderment. With the series You an Orchestra, You a Bomb, Cig Harvey reminds us to cherish those moments that can send shivers down our spines and emotions through our hearts; those clues that let our bodies and minds know we are in the presence of something extraordinary. The artist cultivates wonder, admiration and a thrilling fear of the unknown by looking at these fragments of everyday life – commonplace and banal at first sight – and infusing them with a unique energy. A snow-covered street becomes a space of serenity and enchantment, suddenly threatened by car headlights cutting through the powdery white scene. Flower petals that have fallen into a puddle become a naturalist fresco bursting with life. A young girl in a dark wood watches a magnolia tree that is in bloom but looks like it might lose its petals at the first gust of wind… A cross between a poem, a diary and a love letter, this series captures the fragility of existence and the ineffable power of the little things in life.
“To me, photography has always played this role of a reminder, a reminder that the world has its share of beauty, and that my camera can bear witness to it: it’s a microscope for observing the world. These photographs represent my hopes, my fears, my loves, my worries…” Cig Harvey
The exhibition is held under the auspices of the Culture of Solidarity programme of La Gacilly-Baden Photo.
